With over a decade of experience, ME 3D is proud to be a company that goes the extra mile when creating high quality 3D systems. As based in the West Midlands, we’ve made some large investments in our equipment and facilities to ensure that we can continue accommodating the ever-evolving commercial and industrial requirements for 3D printing and scanning. Our service focus on additive manufacturing, but also consumer applications, and we pride ourselves on the flexibility that can be offered throughout all of our manufacturing processes. Whether you’re needing cogs, fixtures, tooling, injection moulds or brackets, you can be sure that the team at Metal Elvis will go above and beyond to provide you with the perfect solution.

How does 3D scanning work?

3D scanning uses a sensor equipped with LED lighting to scan and product incredibly accurate data clusters of a particular component or part. The advanced technology captures the object’s exact size, shape and volume and creates a digital 3D representation of it. This digital copy can then be used to produce replicas of the product. Here at Metal Elvis, we only work with equipment that can offer the highest levels of performance and accuracy which is why the Comet L3D 8MP is used to support our 3D scanning services. Using this machine we can establish 3D models of the parts, before using reverse engineering to print the parts in the most approrpiate material for the purpose and application. This process is ideal for those who need replacement parts for something that is no longer on the market.

3D scanning services – reverse engineering components

Here at Metal Elvis, our 3D scanning services can be used to support a wide range of industries and applications. One project we took on-board was for a customer who needed replacement brackets for a machine.  Using a 3D scanning reverse engineering process, we scanned the remaining object and managed to create a mirror object, producing high quality and accurately-made left hand and right hand components. We then printed the pieces from a polymer suited for brackets – in this case, Nylon 6.  The entire project was completed within five days, and afterwards meant that the customer could fix their machine and continue reaping the benefits of its functionality and profitability.
