Everton are set to sign Sunderland’s England U-21 goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in a deal that could be worth up to £30 million.
Pickford was a stand-out player in a wretched Sunderland side last season. While he couldn’t prevent the team being relegated, he nevertheless impressed many watchers with some fine displayers.
The player is currently on duty with the England U-21 side, but is expected to complete the formalities of the deal on his return.
Everton’s bid for Pickford contains several add-ons, and could rise to as much as £30 million, according to the Press Association. If that happens, it will make him the third most expensive goalkeeper in history, behind Ederson’s recent £35 million move to Manchester City and Gianluigi Buffon’s 2001 £32.5 million transfer to Juventus.
