Lionel Messi doppelgänger, Reza Parastesh is experiencing a lot of attention since his dad made him don the number 10 Barcelona kit for a photo, he was convinced that his son looked just like the goal scoring machine who is perhaps the greatest footballer who has ever lived.
It would seem his dad was right, after donning the kit he sent some photos in to a sports website. The 25-year-old Iranian couldn’t believe it when they immediately replied asking him to come in for an interview.
That’s when everything changed for Reza Parastesh, who was previously enjoying life as a student.
Since his newfound stardom he has cut his hair like Messi and is studying his mannerisms to be just like the Barcelona legend. He will often wear the Barcelona or Argentina t-shirt when he goes out and is constantly stopped for photos and selfies.
It would seem that being Messi’s doppelgänger is a lucrative deal too, since being recognised he has landed modelling contracts, gets booked for interviews and special appearances and is constantly stopped in the street.
Reza told Daily Mail: “Now people really see me as the Iranian Messi and want me to mimic everything he does. When I show up somewhere, people are really shocked.
“I’m really happy that seeing me makes them happy and this happiness gives me a lot of energy.”
However, it hasn’t always been the walk in the park Reza is experiencing now. During the FIFA World Cup in 2014 his own dad took a disliking to him when Messi scored a goal for Argentina in the 91stst minute against Iran, knocking them out of the last 16. His dad called him and told him not to come home.
Just recently, his striking resemblance nearly landed him behind bars for disturbing the peace. It would seem his similarities are so acute people really are struggling to spot the difference. Huge crowds gathered when he was walking through the Iranian city of Hamedan and police were called in to rush him to a nearby station. They also impounded his car to help clear traffic. A world a way from his student lifestyle.
Despite discovering worldwide fame as the striker’s doppelgänger he is still yet to meet his hero but hopes to soon and even thinks the duo could come up with a mutually beneficial agreement.
He says: “Being the best player in footballing history, he definitely has more work than he can handle. I could be his representative when he is too busy.”
